Five for Friday
I haven’t been this excited to see Friday since last Friday! 😉
I’m excited to share our week of learning. I’m linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for her Five for Friday. If you have never done this linky party you should. I have found it to be a great way to reflect on my week! Here we go…
This week we started to dig deeper with text features. Our text feature this week was labels. Our main focus was labeling dolphins. We read several informational text about dolphins and then practiced labeling together as well as independently. I put the turtle labeling sheet as well as a few other animals in our writing workshop area for them to practice with.
We started our measurement unit in math. I bought Jayme’s measurement unit from Teach, Talk, Inspire. Be sure to check out her blog. She has lots of great teaching ideas and activities. My kids are loving the unit so far. Their favorite has been measuring with the magic wand and sorting pictures into the magic hat.
We continued our habitat unit in science. This week we learned about the pond and started to talk about forest.
During literacy centers we have been working with a lot of CVC activities. Students wrote the beginning sound, middle, and end as well as did sentence scrambles practicing CVC words and sight words. These activities can be found in my TpT store.
Today is our World Kaleidoscope day. We learn about different countries throughout the year, but today is the day we celebrate our school and all the countries we are from. It is an exciting event where students get to showcase the places that are special to them and teach others about it. Each grade level gets to hear about two different countries throughout the day. Kindergarten is learning about Poland and China. We finish the day with an after school event where families are welcome to come and try food from around the world, participate in games, the students perform cultural dances, and sing songs. It is a great event to celebrate each other!
That wraps up my Five for Friday. I hope everyone has a great day and a wonderful weekend!
