It is all fun and games until the alarm clock goes off

That is if you even hear your alarm…  Or you could be like me who continued to sleep and wondered what in the world is that strange noise and how on Earth do I get it to stop?!  It took about five minutes for it to register that oh yea, that is the alarm, time to get up!

Although I was sad spring break was over I was really excited to see my kiddos!  It is always exciting to hear about their break and see their smiling faces.  One student came in smiling ear to ear saying, “Happy belated Easter!” 😉

I knew that I would have to incorporate a lot of movement for the kiddos as well as myself today.  This week we are practicing the letter Ee so we went on a letter “e” hunt.  Students took their dry erase markers and slates and walked around the room trying to find as many “e” words as they could. Then they shared with a partner.

Switching gears, it is always interesting to me how from year to year the interest of the class always changes.  For example, some years the kids love math centers, other years they love literacy centers.  This year my class LOVES writing workshop!  The students beg for writing workshop every day!  They love having the opportunity to choose what they want to do and practice their writing.  I love walking around and helping as I watch their creativity run wild.

Currently my class is all about writing books.  We recently finished our ELA unit on beginning, middle, end and story elements and they have really enjoyed writing their own stories.  I always love this time of year because I feel as though everything we have learned so far starts to connect and click.  They become a little more independent each day and it is just exciting to watch.

In math we started to talk about teen numbers and place value.

We began the lesson by watching Numbers in the Teens (Have a group of 10)

It is a catchy video about understanding place value.  After, we practiced filling in double ten frame mats with each teen number.

In the next few days I want to try to have them start to decompose the teen numbers and show the number sentence.

As always, thank you for taking the time to check out my blog. For those of you who went back to work I hope your week is wonderful, for those of you who are on break, I hope it is slow and relaxing!
