Learning Leprechauns

We had a lot of fun in KS today.  We began our day by discovering that a leprechaun had been in our room and shrunk or sight words (EEK!).  We had to use a magnify glass in order to read them.  

 

Later in the day we read a story called Leprechaun in the Basement by Kathy Tucker. Throughout the story we talked about the story elements and afterwards wrote the characters, setting, problem, and solution on our story elements flip book.  (This flipbook can be found in my Story Elements Packet).

 

We have been spending a great deal of time on story elements and the kiddos did a nice job writing and drawing about them today.  Afterwards we did a dictated drawing of a leprechaun thanks to First Grade Blue Skies Freebie.  This was the first time I had done a drawing like this and it will not be my last.  It was great!  The kiddos were so engaged and everyone in my class was able to participate.  On the front of the leprechaun paper we wrote about what we would do if we were leprechauns.  Would we share our gold?  Or keep it for ourselves?  I was pleasantly surprised that almost everyone said they would at least share their gold with their family! 😉
