Morning Message for the Beginning of the Year
Good Morning and Happy Sunday. With the start of the school year I have feel like I have neglected my poor little blog so I thought I would start my day with a little blogging and planning.
I wanted to write a quick post and share what I do for morning message at the beginning of the year. It is a great way to get to know your students and for the first twenty something days is one way to have your morning messages already planned and ready to go. With so much already on our plates that is always a great feeling!
Morning Messages can be such a valuable time of the day where you have the opportunity to target a lot of skills at once. At the beginning of the year I do an interview style morning message where we spotlight one student a day and get to know them. I had seen this idea on Pinterest from Mrs. Cate’s Kindergarten and modified it to fit my needs.
I write these sentence frames on the board each day and then randomly pick a student to come up and sit in the share chair. Then they tell us about themselves. We take time reading each sentence. I go over that letters make words, words makes sentences, and sentences communicate a message. Then we spend some time circling letters we have already learned and practice the sound.
We always finish with cheering the student’s name.
We say their name!
We spell their name.
We clap their name as we spell each letter!
Finally, we cheer each letter!
Thank you for taking the time to stop by. I hope you have a wonderful Sunday and a great start to your week!
