Primary Punchbowl: Fall Blog Hop

Welcome to our Fall Blog Hop!  Fall is my favorite time of the year!  The colors, the cooler temperatures, the comfy clothes and boot weather.  I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my favorite season then by participating in a fall blog hop with some of my favorite blogging buddies.  Now grab a cup of hot apple cider or a pumpkin spice latte and start blog hopping to grab some great fall ideas to use in your classroom, some freebies, and a chance to win TpT gift certificates.  

I try to include a variety of fall read alouds during the season and one book in particular I love to read is The Little Scarecrow Boy by Margaret Wise Brown.  

This week we are working on the letter Ss and I always incorporate this book into my lesson plans.

If you haven’t read the story it is about a little scarecrow boy who wants to go out and scare the crows like his Dad.  His Dad tells him that he is not scary enough, but the boy decides to go out anyways.  As he tries to scare the crows he is quickly learning that he is gotten into more than he can handle and his “scary faces” are not doing the trick.  His Dad swoops in and saves the day and helps the little scarecrow boy scare the crows and the scarecrow boy learns a valuable lesson that he needs to listen to his parents and wait until he is ready.  This story lends itself to a lot of great discussions and inferences.  

We talk about the lessons learned and then talk about lessons that they have learned.  We also make scarecrows out of shapes. 

Use this Fall Freebie during literacy centers to practice letter/beginning sounds.  Students can spin the spinner and color the picture that matches the letter.
