Five for Friday

TGIF!  We made it, AND the icing on the cake is it is a three day weekend!   Before I go out and enjoy the beautiful weather I’m excited to link up with Kacey from Doodlebug’s Teaching to recap the week.  Here we go…

We started to learn about community helpers this week.  I love this unit and it is a fun way to end the school year.  Each day I let the kiddos vote on the community helper they would like to learn about.  The first day it was a unanimous decision to learn about Veterinarians.  We used Pebble Go and informational text to research and then worked together to fill out our organizer.  Afterwards I had them make an animal puppet of their choice.  During this time we also reach out to parents to come in and talk about their job.  The kids love seeing their parents and the parents love coming into the classroom, it is a win-win!
These sweet drawings never get old.  I love my class.  They are a great group of kids.  They are kind to one another, cheer each other on, and help each other out.  I am sad to see them leave, but I am excited to watch them grow!

For a few weeks we have been learning about how to research and use text features.  This week we tied all the text features together.  We researched our school mascot (owls) and each day we filled out one page.  This is in preparation for next week.  The kids are going to be able to choose an animal of their choice and research it.  The end project is for them to be able to present information about their animal to the class.  Students can make a book, design a poster, and use power point to present their facts.  I was pleased how well they did this week!  They are becoming quite the text feature experts.
My classroom has turned into a science lab!  We are conducting an experiment to see if a Lima bean can grow in other places besides soil.  We are testing to see if it can grow in paper.
First, we dipped the paper towel in water and rung the extra water out.  Then we placed the Lima bean on the paper towel and folded it.

Finally, we taped our Lima beans to the window so that it could get sunlight.

When we come back from our weekend we will see if any Lima beans started to sprout!
One of the pages in our ABC book was K.  We wrote about what we love about Kindergarten.  One cutie wrote her favorite part of Kindergarten was me!  My day was made.  Although this time of year can get overwhelming and stressful, it is moments like these that make me stop and smile.  I love my job!
Well, that wraps up our week in K.  Thanks for stopping by.  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  I’m looking forward to hanging out with the hubby as well as the dynamic duo!
