Five for Friday
I made it! I survived the week after spring break, well almost, but it is Friday so we are in the final stretch! It was a fun week of learning in my Kindergarten room and I’m linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday! This linky party is just one more reason to be excited for Fridays! Here we go…
This week we have been working on decomposing and composing tricky teens and practicing place value. I have been trying to make math more hands on. I’ve been reading the book study book Worksheets Don’t Grow Dendrites by Marcia L. Tate. (Great read if you have not started) and one take away I’ve had is that students need time to work with math. In order for them to internalize and understand it they need the time to practice it.
I made Wild about Teen Numbers for the kiddos to use as they practice working with the numbers. It is full of hands on activities They have been WILD (no pun intended ;)) about these math centers and I feel like that are getting the concepts. This has inspired me to continue to make sure that math is more hands on.

We have been working on the letter E this week. For the past two days we have been exploring short vowel “e” and long vowel “e”. Today we are going to do a fun short vowel/long vowel “e” sort. Pictures are going to be posted around the room and the students are going to walk around and write where they think the picture belongs on their recording sheet.
Our new ELA unit started this week which is all about informational text. I am excited about this unit especially with my class this year because they LOVE animals. Throughout this unit we learn all about text features and how to use them to navigate through informational text. This week we started off by reading fiction and informational text and comparing the two.
We wrapped up our unit on water. After talking about the three forms of water we explored the water cycle. This sheet is part of my Water, Water, Everywhere packet.
